Sweetdram Smoked Spiced Rum


Hate spiced rums cause they’re too harsh and sickly sweet? Yeah, us too. That’s why, in 2016, we decided to make our own smooth, sexy, grown-up version: SMOKED SPICED RUM.

First, we take our proprietary Sweetdram blend of aged Caribbean rums and fill it into the infusion tank. This blend – from Guyana and Barbados – is the perfect base to build flavour on, with strong notes of Demerara brown sugar, rich molasses and hints of fresh fruit salad. Then we infuse a mixture of bright green botanicals (chamomile, lime leaf, fennel, and cardamom), grain of paradise for peppery spice, superior lapsang souchong tea and organic figs, which we warm-smoke over oak at the distillery. The result is a dry, bold, aromatic spirit that sits somewhere between rum and a slightly smoky Speyside single malt whisky.

Unlike some other spiced rums, our SMOKED SPICED RUM is completely natural with no artificial flavours or colour and no added sugar or sweeteners. Plus, no childish marketing gimmicks, like sea creatures or pirates, since we’re all adults.

No, we don’t, for a couple of reasons. First, rolling around in sticky molasses doesn’t sound like much fun to us. Second, distilling rum in Scotland isn’t actually very sustainable when you consider we’d have to ship sugarcane halfway across the world to be fermented and processed. We’d rather work with the rum experts, who’ve been doing this for generations in their home countries, to create a consistent, aged blend that suits us.

Pour a shot (25ml) of SMOKED SPICED RUM into a highball glass then:

  1. Add ice
  2. Squeeze lime
  3. Add ginger beer
  4. Drink

Our SMOKED SPICED RUM is extremely versatile – it can be mixed with ginger beer or sparkling fruit juices (e.g., rhubarb soda) or used as a base pour in classic rum cocktails, such as the Daiquiri, Pina Colada, El Presidente, Rum Punch, Hurricane and Mai Tai.

Since the flavour profile of our SMOKED SPICED RUM is similar to a single malt Scotch whisky, you can also use it as a base pour in classic whisky cocktails, such as the Old Fashioned or Manhattan.

Just don’t mix it with coke. For some season, when you take the natural and throw in something that synthetic, it all goes a bit too weird!
