Sweetdram Scotch Sazerac Pre-Batched Bottled Cocktail
WHAT IS A SCOTCH SAZERAC?
Inspired by the original – a soul-soothing combo of rye whiskey, Peychaud’s bitters and absinthe – we’ve bottled our own, Scotch-based version of the classic New Orleans cocktail.
WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL?
It's made exclusively with Sweetdram spirits.
Instead of rye as a base, we’ve used our BLEND #1 Blended Scotch Whisky for depth, structure and a subtle wisp of smoke. Then we add Cask-Aged Moonshine Liqueur and Whisky Amaro – both intensely aromatic – to reconstruct the fruity, dry spice notes from the Peychaud’s, and our seasonal, sustainable Scottish Wild Absinthe to flesh out the edges.
Although the original recipe also calls for sugar (in the form of simple syrup or a cube) thanks to the honeyed amaro and our naturally sweet, oily absinthe, there’s no need to add any.
WHAT MAKES IT ULTRA-RARE?
Our Cask-Aged Moonshine Liqueur has now completely sold out, never to be repeated. So, unless you’re one of the lucky few who has a limited-edition 2020 bottle lying around, this Scotch Sazerac CANNOT BE RECREATED by anyone, including us.
CAN YOU USE SCOTCH WHISKY TO MAKE A SAZERAC?
The purists would say “no” – but if you can get past the philosophical argument, and focus solely on flavour, then it really all depends on the Scotch whisky. Simply find one that’s clean enough not to suffocate the rest of the drink but has enough gusto to stand up to a little dilution.
For BLEND #1, we use North British grain whisky aged in virgin (i.e., new) oak, which gives it a solid woody backbone akin to most ryes and a flavour profile that sits between a smooth, balanced Scotch and a more mature, complex bourbon. As a result, it’s ideal for classic American whiskey cocktails like the Sazerac, Old Fashioned and Manhattan (Rob Roy).
HOW TO DRINK
For the best possible experience, we recommend adding 75ml to a mixing glass, stirring it down over ice and then straining it into a chilled coupe. Alternatively, just pour straight from the bottle into an ice-filled rocks glass.
